Sales Order

Once a sales order is entered into the system it can be viewed, committed or printed.  Once the sales order invoice is committed it will adjust inventory levels, make journal entries to general ledger accounts and create printable accounts receivable invoices.  Sales orders provide additional functionality, however, by allowing multiple pick lists and multiple shipments. Special tracking features record what items have been shipped, when the items were shipped and how much of an item still needs to be shipped to complete an order.
One of the underlying strengths of the sales order system is based upon how the system has been designed to process canceled orders. In this system we are assuming that most organizations maintain a high degree of discipline and control over their inventory and day-to-day shipping procedures. That is why the system requires significant transactions to be confirmed. For example, restocks must be based upon what was actually confirmed as picked for the order that was canceled. This is a real time system that does not assume that what was printed on a picking ticket will "automatically" be picked and shipped, or that what was picked will "automatically" be returned to stock should an order be canceled.
Cancellations can be processed at any time prior to completing an order. Once an order has been canceled, however, the system will prevent any additional processing of the sales order such as creating additional pick lists or shipping an order.  To properly return the picked items to inventory, a restock list is printed and confirmed. The restocking process then restores the quantity on hand for each item that has been canceled.
