Processing a Bank Reconciliation

There are a few considerations before you begin you first reconciliation. You can reconcile several months at once by entering the bank statement beginning balance from the statement that coincides with the time period when you started entering transactions in the system. Then enter the ending balance of the current bank statement.

Note:
This statement from which you take the beginning balance should not contain any transactions that were never entered into the system. If it does, start your reconciliation with the next bank statement in which every transaction has been entered into the system. This, of course, excludes any transactions that should have been entered such as bank services charges.

If you have reconciled with your bank statements each month and want to start your bank reconciliations after a certain date, you can use the exclusion step to exclude past items you have reconciled from showing up in the Bank Reconciliation Form.

You may choose any account to reconcile from the Chart of Accounts. If the account you choose has no associated transactions, the Reconciliation form will still open.  If you then push the [Save] or [Close Window] button, you will be notified that there are no transactions to clear for this account and the form will close without saving anything.
